Wilson Road, Camberwell, 1981

These houses were built c.1870. The developer would have been encouraged to build at that time as horse tram services had just started to run along Camberwell Church Street, providing cheap, reliable and comfortable transport to London.

Despite their size the houses were generally let to one family. Some could afford servants and some took lodgers.

The church in the background is St Giles, Camberwell's ancient parish church.
