Bessemer House, named after its most famous occupant, industrialist Henry Bessemer, who lived there in his retirement until his death in 1898, was one of the most substantial houses on the Denmark Hill part of the Dulwich Estate.

Bessemer bought the house from the estate in 1863, but employed the estate's surveyor, Charles Barry, to extend the house and out-buildings.

An unusual addition was this astronomical observatory. The house was demolished in 1947.
