Kent End had the typical life span of the larger Victorian suburban house.

It was built in the 1850s and demolished in the 1950s, probably at the expiration of an original 99 year lease.

The development of London Road as a place of residence for wealthy businessmen and professionals followed immediately on the opening of Forest Hill Station in 1839.

At the bottom of the hill, by the station, the style of the early 1840s houses was Italianate, but by the time the builders reached Kent End (at the Kent-Surrey county boundary on the crest of the hill) the style was approaching Gothic via Jacobean.
