These were built in 1755 and still form one of the most picturesque features of the village and represent Bexley's most famous charity.

John Styleman was a director of the East India Company and lived at Danson. On his death in 1734 he left instructions for the erection of twelve dwellings for the relief of poor families in Bexley.

The twelve cottages remain today and still fulfil their charitable purpose.
