Aside from the typical 19th century workmen's cottages, three things are of note in this picture.

First is the unusual width of the pavement.

The second is the plaque (detail below) which, in fact, was a mark indicating the boundary of Rotherhithe and Bermondsey, which ran down the middle of the road.

The third is the trees a plane and a mountain ash, which were planted by the Bermondsey Borough Council in the 1920s as a part of their scheme to beautify the Borough.
