Abbey House Estate, Bermondsey, 1826
The first images shows Abbey House estate prior to redevelopment.
Despite having the trappings of a grand house, such as a hot-house and formal garden, the neighbouring industries were too close at hand.
Note the rope-walk intruding into the plot.

The second image shows the estate once it was developed and divided into plots to be sold to freeholders.
These houses would in turn have been rented to tenants.
