The Cedars, Belmont Hill, Lee, Lewisham, 1838

cedars-01550-350

The Cedars (also known as Lee Grove) was amongst the largest of the large houses that characterised Lee in the 18th and early 19th centuries.

The building as seen, dates from the early 19th century, although there has been a house on the site for much longer.

For many generations the house was occupied by the Brandram family. Its last private resident was John Penn, the maritime engineer, whose works occupied a large site on Blackheath Road.

The house is now divided into flats.

Two photographs are also available from c.1900, one exterior and one of the opulent interior.
