Not all of Lee's developments were aimed at the middle classes.

Many of the streets north of the east end of Lee High Road comprised small terraced houses, many dating from the 1830s and 1840s. The area was known as Lee New Town.

This view looks north from the southern end of Dacre Park at the time when the street was called Turner Road.
