Hally's Nursery, Blackheath Village, Blackheath, c. 1900

Hally's (horticultural) Nursery occupied a central site in Blackheath Village on the east side of Tranquil Vale.

The site has its origin as a private nursery of the Wricklemarsh Estate, but from 1795 to 1860 it was run by several generations of the Hally family as a commercial enterprise supplying plants amd seeds to the developing village.

Hally also built a swimming pool, using the same water source - part of the Kid Brook- that was used for horticultural purposes.

The building of the railway in 1849 diverted the stream and ended this enterprise, and indirectly, stimulated further development that saw the site built on as Blackheath Grove.
