Streatham Vale Road, Streatham Vale, 1905
An early photograph showing the stretch of road near Lonesome before the road was surfaced and the area developed, the trees and hedges being replaced by terraced houses and shops.
The 'deserted village' of Lonesome was a failed residential development of the late 19th century.
Apart from the wooded and wet terrain, the area was also notorious for attacks by highwaymen.
