Lonesome, Streatham Vale, 1905
Two images of the 'deserted village' of Lonesome, now Streatham Vale, which was a failed residential development of the late 19th century.
Apart from the wooded and wet terrain, the area was also notorious for attacks by highwaymen.
A few houses had been built before speculative development had been considered and are shown here in a dilapidated state at the beginning of the 20th century.
Photographs by Cabburn, from an article published in Sketch, 20th November, 1905.
