County School for Girls, Nightingale Lane, Bickley, 1983

County School for Girls, Nightingale Lane, Bickley, 1983

Founded in Widmore Road in 1905 as the County School, "to extend opportunities for girls to enjoy secondary education", this purpose built building opened in 1910 on the edge of town.

It was extended in the thirties and the fifties as the population continued to rise, and again in the seventies.

Declining roles in the eighties brought about an amalgamation with the boys' school in Hayes Lane in 1989, and the building became an adult education centre and primary school.
