Broadway, Bexleyheath, 1935
Crowds shopping in the Broadway. On the right of the photograph can be seen the newly opened Regal Cinema. Sidney Bacon's Pictures Ltd opened the "Regal" cinema on 3rd September 1934. It was a very large cinema with a 2,044 seater auditorium.
It also had a much-loved feature of the super cinemas, a cinema organ, which was played by Robinson Cleaver and featured in radio broadcasts.
After several changes of name the cinema eventually closed in 1987, was demolished and the site is now occupied by an Asda superstore.
