Dulwich College, Dulwich, Southwark, c.1910
Dulwich College is hugely significant to the area for two reasons.
Firstly as a major public school, which had been established in its modern form in 1857, but which traces back its origin to 1619. The buildings seen here were designed by Charles Barry and opened in 1870.
Secondly the college estate has been run to the benefit of the college since the 17th century.
Development has been strictly controlled. The estate has largely remained as a single freehold unit until very recent times and building development has been of a type and standard attractive to potential pupils' parents.
