One of a series of photographs taken around 1860 of the Thames foreshore prior to the construction of the Thames Embankment in 1866.
It shows Princes Wharf and J.T.Walford, soap manufacturers seen on the left of Imperial Potteries in the centre.
J. Smith, boat builders, is on the right with the gasometers of the London Gas Works (at the Oval) visible in the background.
