A V2 rocket incident showing clearing operations and damage done to Lambeth Baths and adjoining buildings in Morton Place, 4th January 1945.

The V2 rocket campaign lasted from late 1944 until January 1945. Only two V2s fell in the borough, but their one ton warheads, together with their arrival without warning, did considerable damage.

The baths were built in 1897, at a time when few homes in the area had hot water or baths. The building, therefore, was an important facility for the local community.

The site was cleared and developed after the war as local authority housing, the most notable building being Lambeth Towers, completed in 1972 and designed by Lambeth's Chief Architect, Ted Hollamby.
