Construction of Albert Embankment, Lambeth North, c. 1915
Construction works in progress of the Albert Embankment near Stangate.
The line of the Thames river bank was straightened by reclaiming land from other wider sections of the bank.
This view looks south showing Lambeth Bridge in the distance and the foot of Westminster Bridge in the centre foreground.
The Embankment replaced, Lower and Upper Fore Street as well as much of Princes Street.
This is now the site of St.Thomas's Hospital.
