View of Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich Peninsula, c. 1840
R. W. Lucas was the only artist to record the Peninsula before it was overwhelmed by industrial development.
This view looking towards Greenwich Hospital (now the Old Royal Naval College and home of the University of Greenwich) highlights the isolation and intensely rural aspect of this large area of riverside marsh.
Watercolours and drawings collection: watercolour by Ralph Willet Lucas, c.1840.
