Moorfield Road was one of Orpington's few Victorian developments, built around 1880. It occupied the popular area between the High Street and the common.

The building on the corner was for many years the Post Office and was run by the Misses Clements. Later, in a slightly altered form, it became Martin's Bank and then the offices of the News Shopper. It is now a kebab shop.
