Station Approach, Hayes, 1974
Hayes' major shopping centre since the 1930s, attracting national chains such as Boots and Woolworth's, began developing from 1931 with the shops on the right of this view being among the earliest to go up.
In the centre was the last section to be developed, opening in 1939.
No attempt was made to create a uniform style for the road. The dual carriageway with trees and bushes on the central reservation was the idea of Bromley RDC.
