Mead Way, Hayes, 1953
Mead Way had begun to be laid out in the late 1930s from the eastern end but had not got far before war broke out.
In 1944 the land set aside for its extension was requsitioned for war use and from 1946 was used for prefabs.
The far west end pictured here was not even started by 1939 so in the early 1950s it became the next part to become permanent housing. The style is still very similar to that of the 1930s houses to the south.
The prefabs, behind the photographer were eventually replaced by town houses in the late 1950s and 1960s.
