Mainly built in the 1860's but named in 1870 to commemorate the residency of Napoleon III, Royal Parade is at the heart of Chislehurst Common.

Previously the area had been occupied by a few cottages which lined the road across St. Paul's Cray Common, but by the time this photo was taken large Victorian villas had sprung up to the north and east.

Behind the cart are the premises of Lidstone the butchers.

Although the High Street developed into the main commercial centre of town during the 20th Century, Royal Parade has remained a fashionable location and today is home to antique shops and restaurants.
