Green Way, Chislehurst, 1937
Part of a ribbon of development that stretched from the Sidcup by-pass to Elmstead, Green Way was developed around 1931.
On the north west edge of Victorian Chislehurst, it was the beginning of infill development that culminated over the next twenty years in the building of the London County Council estate at Mottingham and of that at Coldharbour by the Woolwich Metropolitan Borough, closing the gap between Kentish Chislehurst and London proper.
No 48 (left) was home to Tom Bushell from 1931 to his death in 1976. Renowned local historian and author of 'Imperial Chislehurst', he did much to popularise the subject.
Here the family are seen celebrating the coronation of George VI.
