Black Horse Inn, Westerham Road, Biggin Hill, Bromley, c.1905
Until the very early years of the 20th century Biggin Hill was extremely rural. The district had a population of about 500.
The junction of Westerham Road (later Main Road) and Jail Lane was what passed for the village centre. In the absence of a parish church (it was part of the parish of Cudham) the ancient Black Horse Inn was the focus of village life.
The building was demolished and rebuilt in 1908.
