Biggin Hill Aerodrome, Biggin Hill, Bromley, 1979

The airfield at Biggin Hill dates back to World War I, though the heroic action of pilots based there during the Battle of Britain in the early years of Worlld War II made it internationally famous.

Biggin Hill was an ideal location for an airfield, being strategically placed to defend the capital: high, flat and with a huge undivided field. It was known as 'The Bump' by World War II pilots.

The base was taken over by Bromley Council in 1973 and the RAF moved out in 1992.
