Welling and East Wickham 1897
This map shows Welling prior to its development as a residential suburb.
The village was a traditional staging post for coaches travelling between London and Kent, as is witnessed by the three inns along the Dover Road.
The transformation of Welling into a dormitory town only became possible after the opening of the Bexleyheath Railway in 1895.
